Captain Douglas Cohn, USA (Ret.) 

Douglas Cohn is the Writer/Owner of: Washington Merry-Go-Round, America's longest running syndicated column, founded by Drew Pearson in 1932. In addition to his twice-weekly syndicated newspaper columns, he is the author of Jackson's Valley Campaign with Maps from the West Point Atlas of the Civil War and Congress, Cliffs & Common Sense.

Cadet Cohn West Point 68He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1968 and volunteered for Vietnam. An airborne-ranger, he served as a recon platoon leader in the 1st Cavalry Division in the jungles on the Cambodian border. He was medically retired as a captain after convalescing from gunshot wounds to the head, Lt. Cohn on Cambodia Borderneck, chest, abdomen, leg and hand. His awards include two Silver Stars and the Purple Heart.

With his military career over, he expanded his study of history. With his family, he visited and studied every battlefield in America and many of the European battlefields. This led to a year of research at the Military History Institute at Carlisle Barracks, home of the U.S. Army War College, where he compiled the research for his book Jackson's Valley Campaign with Maps from the West Point Atlas of the Civil War.

He and his family then moved to Northern Virginia, where he continued his writing career, meeting with newspaper editors across the country, selling his first column, Historical Perspectives and publishing periodicals such as Great Political Cartoons and Internet Guide, until he became affiliated with the Washington Merry-Go-Round and Parade Magazine. In 1999, Eleanor Clift joined him on Washington Merry-Go-Round, and in 2004, he became the owner of the column.

Currently, Lyons Press has just published his book President's First Year: None Were Prepared, Some Never Learned - Why the Only School for Presidents Is the Presidency. A book about WWIV is expected for publishing in late 2016. Douglas Cohn is represented by Doug Grad Literary Agency.

He has been the primary speaker at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, National Press Club, West Point Founders Day, and the International Platform Association. He was the keynote speaker at the 2013 Napoleonic Historical Society annual meeting.

His television work includes the Military Channel, CNBC and numerous appearances on A&E's Biography Channel.
